Jan Wells's Definition of the Purpose of Government

I emailed Jan Wells a question that essentially asked, "In your opinion, what is the purpose (or objective) of government?" This is the response she sent back:

Tim,

I believe that the function of government is to serve the people.

As your Mayor, I will operate city hall as the customer service business that it is. I expect to build a service-based administration founded on honesty, mutual respect and integrity.

As a real estate professional for eleven years, I am a trained listener and believe that skill to be crucial to the success of a Mayor elected to represent the best interests of the residents.

The Mayor's office will see that residents are regularly informed about city projects which may directly impact them. By implementing quarterly "town hall" meetings, I will be able to hear about issues of concern to residents and assist in formulating a plan to resolve them.

Thanks for your question. You are welcome to publish my response if you wish.

Jan Wells

I have not replied back to her about this yet.
